Great! The Tour of Textile Arts Gallery G starts out with a very bold pattern and vivid colors. What could be a bolder pattern than a zig zag mosaic. Top that off with a bright Orange, and a beautifully toned Navy, along with a neutral Linen color. And, what do you get? Funny thing is that this new pattern is also double-sided, similar to those in the prior Gallery E.
A Tour of Textile Arts Gallery G “Vibrant Zig Zag Mosaic Throw ‘24”
This throw is a beauty as well as an optical illusion in color and motion. And, it gives you the option of which side you want to show. Due to the dual sides, you have a choice of patterns as the backside is more subdued and easier on the eyes. What side would you choose? For me, it would depend on the mood I was in…
It could look more like a 70’s vibe as well. Very hip! However, you may not want to stay with the actual era as the color orange was used on so much stuff; from kitchen countertops to carpets, to drapes, bedspreads and way too much more. I suggest using the color pop as accents, not mainstays. There is that old adage that says ‘too much of a good thing, is not always good’.
What colors are those?
The colors used in this vibrant project were just that, Orange, Linen and Soft Navy. In contrast is where the vibrance comes from. Thus, the addition of the zig zag pattern creates more vibrancy. Yet, it seems to move. Not a pattern you will forget easily, but yet so easy to create. Simple basic stitches lend to the ease of making the throw. It was a fun project, especially the interchanging of colors in the middle.
Albeit pretty large, and sized at 67” L x 35” W, it did not take as long as one might think. However, I do not take stock of the time it takes to create, as I do a little at a time here and there, mostly while relaxing. This is why I look for simple, but unusual patterns and stitches. And, I usually have some sort of project small or large always going.
One of the things I really like about how this pattern works, and it helps with ease, is each row is done, one at a time. Meaning, you always start the row on the right side of the project and always end it on the left side. This is what creates the double sidedness, along with the fringed sides.
But…
What about the reason for the first project here? Well, I must say it was another project that started it all. As much as I loved making the one above, if it wasn’t for this project, that one may have not even occurred.
Where to start? Okay, well you probably know by now, if you have read ‘till now, that I’m constantly on the lookout for new, fresh and easy crochet patterns. And, I found a great one! It seemed to be easy enough with easy stitches, including the simple chain stitch. The design with multiple colors also looked very cool too.
However, looks can be deceiving. The directions were pretty simple with many repetitive rows. These repetitive rows intertwined the simple chains. But…these simple chains are a devil though. This is because it may take several rows before a small mistake is detected, figure out what went wrong and take apart the work already done. Just to only have to redo work again. How frustrating???
Well…
After this happened a few times, I was done with the ease of this project. So, instead of completely scrapping it, I chose to finish it enough to turn it into a “Chained Zig Zag Table Runner ‘24” (size approx. 56”x13.5”.) And, it still looks great. So much less unintentional aggravation involved. See it for yourself in the gallery pictures on the sides above. Also, you can see, they are the same colors used as the first project on this page. Luckily, I had enough yarn for both!
So, I hope you enjoyed the Tour of Textile Arts Gallery G and the bold choices that were made with complimentary colors, on the color wheel. Yet, another reason the colors look so good together. Even though the hues were not alike it still all worked together. Can you come up with your own complimentary colors you like? Now, add them to your next project. No matter what that is, just get more color in your life! It’ll make you smile. These projects are how I do, just that. Hope your enjoying my gallery and thanks for staying tuned in.
