Finally, the Tour of Textile Arts Gallery F includes some ‘odds and ends’ projects, mostly small or quick. These are fun projects or samplers that were done in a weekend or done to see how some bulky yarns would look. Either way, they all turned out pretty fabulous and interesting.
One of those ‘odds and ends’ is a crochet project with leftover brilliant colors from another project where these colors were the pop of color. However, with this project it is definitely an entire pop of colors. It’s got the WOW factor! All with a Southwest vibe in the creation of, what looks to be, mountains, of color. You might even need your shades?
“Vibrant Southwest Fiesta” Table Runner/Buffet Cover 24”w X 50”l {Spring/Summer 2022}
What a fun pattern I found and works perfectly with all these colors together. You cannot but smile when you look at it. It sure makes me happy now seeing it again and when I created it. Almost the size of a sampler; Or, you could turn it into a wall hanging.
However you would use it, it would leave a smile on your face from any room. All done with a single crochet and long single crochet stitch. So easy and cheerful! Comes out looking so much more difficult, but a beginner could tackle this one.
Well, the next one is sure to light up your face too. This one is sure to please; as it’s a wall hanging and a play on the color wheel with double colors. Included is a solid border to frame the squares. Also, an added topper for special hanging.
“Color Wheel Double Trouble ‘23” Wall Hanging 19”w X 29”l [not including stick]
We have six granny squares of double strands of a play on the color wheel. You may need to stare at it, more than usual, to see it for yourself. This was, of course, fun and pretty fast too. That’s because it was done holding two strands together throughout.
And, the added special white frame that was crocheted around the whole thing really sets it off. All the while, the extra trim at the top for the added stick inserted as a hanger came out extremely well. So happy with this granny square wall hanging sampler! What do you think?
Another great crochet project is a thick small rug project. This was created using two super chunky knitted yarns; done with two separate textures and two different colors. Which combined, creates a hefty rug that is soft under your feet. And, due to the size, I call it a sampler.
“Ribbed Rug Sampler 2023” Small Thick Rug 17”w X 21”l X 1”d
And, best of all, or just plain funny, the yarn itself looks different after it’s crocheted. You must check out the photo for this one. See, told ya, weird huh? This too was fun to crochet, especially using a huge crochet needle, a size Q.
You gotta love these colors named Chunky Knit in Shale & Chunky Knit Velvet in Cognac. Wow, huh? However, the velvet one feels sooo lush! And yet, the Shale is soft too! This sampler is really thick and plush under your bare feet.

Last, but for sure not the least, of a small lap throw in shades of a blue hue. These two shades are complimentary of the ocean just at dusk. These night waves are surrounded by a hefty border keeping you warm on a chilly night. The thicker yarn of the light blue versus the softer, lighter yarn of the darker blue gives it more shape and dimension.
“A Night On The Ocean” 2023 Small Lap Throw 32”w X 47”l
Such a cool look, this small throw has. Row after row of single crochet, makes it such an easy project. A good amount of a repeated basic stitch and repeating rows, help with that. It looks harder than it is, but that’s what you get when you put thicker yarn & an easy stitch.
Now, adding a newly created border gives to the allure of difficulty. A simple double crochet and chain stitches would normally pay off substantially, however I added a twist. I took three strands of various blue hues and braided them together. And, it had to span the entire border.
Afterwards, the braided yarn was then woven, in and out of the double crochet stitches. And was done around all four sides of the throw. Adding more weight to all sides, due to the size of the project makes it cozier. Thus, not likely to fall off your lap, like some others of similar size.
Well, how about a Bonus with One More Here? You’re covered! This one has a funny story. So, here goes; One day long ago, I was looking for some yarn for my next project and came across…what looked to be…a NEON SIGN of Yarn! Oh my?
“Neutralized NEON Carryall” 2020 Round Bucket Handbag (with built in handles) Approx. 12”d X 12”h [with circular bottom]
Meanwhile, back to the story. Upon seeing these super bright, need shades on, neon colors, I chose to get one of each for sheets and giggles. I started a couple of different projects, but each time it hurt my eyes to continue. So, I had no choice, but to mix it with other neutral color palettes to dim the brightness.
Thus, the NEON Round Bucket Carryall came into existence. I found a cool online free pattern and had some single skeins of unmatched yarn and used them. It became so much easier using a mix than the NEON colors alone. Funny thing is, it became a holding bag for all the leftover NEON yarn! Going forward, It can be used for anything. And later, I created the “Magic Shrooms 2023” on Tour of Textile Art Gallery D.
Wow, what a gallery we had! I know it has been a minute since I posted prior to Gallery E. So, I thought I would end with something extra. Thank you for continuing to enjoy and keeping up with my galleries. The community here is amazing!
