Tour of Textile Arts Gallery D

Dive into this Tour of Textile Arts Gallery D showing what I consider some true gallery art made to frame; as they are framed themselves. I had seen these patterns before on Pinterest. Not sure why I had not tried them before now, but maybe timing.

Repetitive in nature, these recent few projects were fun to create. By now you know, I like to find stitches or patterns that are easy and fun; and allows me to be free to create size and colors of choice. I now have enough time crocheting under my belt to be able to use my past knowledge to create and freestyle a lot.

Tour of Textile Arts Gallery D ~ “Natural Mushrooms 2023”

This is my first visually repetitive design shaped as mushrooms and so enjoyable to crochet. I truly had fun with colors and went both, natural for the first one, then psychedelic for the next. Afterwards, I chose to add a crocheted frame around them. As you can tell from the pictures, they both have the same type of frame; using a single crochet stitch, just in different colors.

Such a fun project and smaller than I usually create. Also, not so much as a throw or afghan. The size is only 33″w X 42″l, more so the size of a large picture.

“Magic Shrooms 2023” crochet project

All the crocheted stitches were using the basics; chain, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. This was for all three projects created. And, I love the names the colors were given. I’ll list them here below for your enjoyment too;

The size is approximately 24″w X 42″l, as it is smaller in width than the natural mushroom project. Small and so cute! But, due to the neon type colors, not always good on the eyes when creating, as you can see for yourself.

As for the kitty cat design, I had the most fun and went totally crazy with the framed crocheted border, as you can tell from the pictures. I went to the Hobby Lobby by my home and purchased 9 different skeins of yarn, keeping in mind the different varieties of cats there are. I think I came up with a good variety.

Now, as for the border, crazy as it is, I went big. This was one of those rare times where I had not completely thought it out. I had actually made it too narrow for the length. So, I was adding more bulk on the sides. Then I thought, I could use a bigger stitch on the sides versus on the top and bottom. But, how would that work, or even look at the corners? And with that, I chose not to change the stitch size.

What about the black edging? Well, it’s really charcoal but I wanted to end with at least five rows of chocolate. However, I was running out of the color. I also wanted to put a wave or use some sort of picot on the edge of this project. Due to a cat’s playful nature, it did not seem fit to crochet a smooth edge. So, I didn’t! This project came out to be 42″w X 72″l. Wow! Bigger than I thought.

Summary ~

And, it came out pretty well I thought! I really like all of them. But, then again I am pretty partial. Do you have a favorite so far? I hope you do. And if not, my hope is that your enjoying the rest of the gallery. Stay tuned for more.
